Almost every customer who walks into our showroom at Ndejje Kakoola asks the same thing: "Should I get a regular sofa or an L-shape?"
The honest answer is: it depends on your room and your household. Here is how to decide.
Choose a Regular Sofa If...
Your Living Room is Long and Narrow
L-shaped sofas need a roughly square living room to work well. If your room is, say, 10 feet wide and 18 feet long, an L-shape will block traffic flow and make the room feel cramped. A 3-seater sofa placed against the long wall — with two armchairs opposite — is a better layout.
You Want Flexibility
Regular sofas can be rearranged easily. You can push them together, pull them apart, or move one to another room when guests come. L-shapes are heavy and nearly permanent once placed.
Your Household is 1-3 People
A 3-seater sofa is perfectly sufficient for a couple or a small family. You do not need the extra seating of an L-shape unless you regularly host large numbers of people.
Choose an L-Shape If...
You Have a Large, Open Living Room
An L-shaped sofa fills a large room beautifully. It creates a defined seating zone in an open-plan space — separating the sitting area from the dining area, for example, without needing a wall.
Your Household is 4+ People
Families with children, or homes that frequently host relatives and friends, benefit from the extra seating that an L-shape provides. Everyone can sit together for family movie nights or celebrations without pulling in chairs from the dining room.
You Want a Corner Chaise Lounge
Many of our L-shapes include a chaise lounge section — a long flat extension where one person can lie down fully stretched. This is popular with customers who like to relax and watch TV lying down after a long day of work in Kampala.
Ugandan Sizes to Know
At Lucky JB Furniture, our standard 3-seater sofa is approximately 220cm wide. Our L-shapes range from 250cm × 180cm to 320cm × 220cm. We always recommend that customers measure their living room before ordering.
Tip: Use masking tape on your floor to mark out the sofa's footprint before buying. Stand in the room and check if it feels right. This takes 5 minutes and saves you from making an expensive mistake.
